Ideas for Halloween Cakes

The following cakes can be made with your favorite cake recipe or from a cake mix. Pick a design below and follow the decorating instructions using our frosting  recipe or yours. See cake  decorations here.

Ghost Cake

The Ghost Cake was made using a sheet cake. After the cake is cooled, chocolate frosting was used to cover the cake. Ghost cookies were then stuck into the icing on the cake. If you can't find ghost cookies at your market, there is a recipe for them in the cookie section.

Ghost Cake # 2

This Ghost Cake was created starting with a bundt cake. After the cake was cooled, thin chocolate frosting was poured over the cake. The ghosts were cut from thick paper and attached to cooking sticks with hot glue and then stuck into the icing on the cake.

Ghost Cake # 3

This Ghost Cake was created starting with a sheet cake. After the cake was cooled, vanilla frosting was put over the cake. The spider in the middle is a small cake with round top and icing for legs. You could also use a snowball cupcake and make icing legs. The ghosts are cookies .

Party Cake

Start with a round cake. Orange frosting was used to cover the top & sides. A frosting tube was used to put on the purple icing. The ghosts were drawn using a tube of white icing. The bats and eyes are candy bakery decorations.

Pumpkin Cake

This Pumpkin Cake was created using 2 bundt cakes. Place 1 bundt cake, flat side up, on a serving plate. Spread top with a thin layer of frosting. Place the second bundt cake on top of the first to form a sphere, lining up ridges of both bundt cakes. Fill the center with coolwhip. Stick a "yodel" or other pastry in the center to make a stem. Cover cakes with a layer of orange frosting. Using a frosting bag with green frosting, draw green lines down the pumpkin about 2 in. apart, from top to bottom.

Scarecrow Cake

The scarecrow cake was made entirely of different colored frosting using a sheet cake. The straw on his arms and legs is made with shredded wheat cereal. His eyes were made with candy and the mouth is licorice. You can cut leaves out of fruit rollups like the baker did here or use candy pumpkins as a decoration.

Spider Web Cake

The Spider web cake was created by making a double layer round cake. After the cake is cooled, orange frosting was used to cover the cake and also placed between layers. A small tube of black icing was used to draw the  thin lines of the spiders and spider web.

Spider Web Cake #2

This Spider Web cake was created by making a round layer cake. After the cake is cooled, chocolate frosting was used to cover the cake and also placed between layers. The web was drawn with a small tube of white icing to draw the thin lines of the spiders web. The spider is a chocolate covered cookie with red licorice for legs

Trick-or-Treat Bag Cake

Start with a sheet cake. The orange bag on top was made with orange frosting of course. Black frosting was used to write "Trick-or-Treat." Once the cake is iced place assorted halloween candies at the end of the cake to make it look like the candy is spilling out. Add a long strip of black licorice to the end with the candy to make it look like a handle. You can use candy leaves cut out of fruit rollups like the baker did here or use candy pumpkins around the outside.

Witch Cake

Start with a sheet cake. Purple frosting was used to cover the top & sides. A frosting tube was used to put on the orange icing. The ghosts were drawn using a tube of white icing. The witch and cats's are plastic bakery decorations.
