Encephalitis Cases

  Hi my name is Mandy Myers. Our son Wesley became ill on September 26, 2001 at age 8 years old with La Crosse Encephalitis. We are from West Milton, Ohio. Wesley spent 5 days in ICU and is still struggling to cope with seizures and severe migraines 3 times daily. It all started with a headache. Took him to the hospital, they sent us home and told us it was a bug! Later that evening I tried to wake him and he had vomited all over himself and was disoriented. I thought he had a seizure!!

Wesley went through a process called waxing and weaning in the hospital where he just screamed bloody murder off and on! They had done an EEG in the hospital when he was screaming and it came back o.k. After we left the hospital I thought he was still having seizures and they did another EEG and sure enough he was!! He has been on many different combos of med's, but has not yet found the right one. He is very dizzy at times, has ADHD now, short-term memory loss, vomits because of the headaches, he cannot be a normal boy now!

We hope in time he will heal!! It has been 10 months now; we just put him in Biofeedback for his severe migraines with a psychologist and have seen little change so far. We'll keep trying until he is not in constant pain! About 4 months out of the hospital he went back in for chicken pox and chicken pox pneumonia. Wesley was really sick. The infectious disease specialist said it was the worst case he had seen since 1972. He spent another 6 days in there and has been back and forth since!

Bless his heart! We want him well again like so many of us here!!
