Encephalitis Cases

Toniesha
My name is Natashua and I have a 15 year old daughter named Toniesha. On December 9th, 2002 Toniesha became very agitated and uncontrollable something that was definitely out of character for her. The police were called and she was taken to the emergency room. She was sent home that evening and we had to call the police a second time and they came with Crisis Intervention. Toniesha was taken back to the emergency room and there they referred her to Capital District Psych Center who in turn sent Toniesha to Ellis Hospital for adolescent Psychiatry. Not a single doctor saw my daughter for one week instead they gave her haldol, therozine, ativan and zyplexa without any blood work or CAT SCAN or MRI being done on her. Toniesha wound up with Nueroleptic Malignant Syndrome. We found out this after she was over medicated and sent to the hospital for fevers. She was then transferred to Albany Med at my demand and that is where they did the CAT SCAN, lumbar puncture and EEG to find that she had elevated white cells and a slowing of the brain. She stayed at Albany Med from December 15th - January 27th in Ped ICU. She is now at Sunnyview Rehab and is progressing slowly (very slowly) and now my insurance does not want to pay. How can a child walk into one hospital and have to be carried out on a stretcher in one week's time? How can the insurance not pay once the child is showing some progress? If anyone has a similar story or can relate please contact me.
