My name is Laura Siemsen; I never had Encephalitis, but my friend Lynne
Post did. She was a "sister" to me! We are from Illinois. She contracted
viral Encephalitis, un-known cause. I've attached a picture of her.
Over the summer of 2001, thru out the entire month of August. A very dear
friend of mine Lynne, almost like a sister to me, fell ill to Encephalitis.
Her name was Lynne, and she was only 15 years old. She went into the hospital
at the beginning of August complaining of headaches. Then she grew Violently
ill. She was put into the hospital again for dehydration. Never to see the
sun again.
The doctors went from one diagnosis to another. First it was Mono, and then
it was meningitis. Then is was a blood clot in the brain they had no clue
what to do to cure it. This girl who was once so alive, was now lying there
in extreme pain. She seemed to recover from it, and although she had already
missed her first day of sophomore year. She was supposed to be released
to go to school by the end of the first week.
When that day came, she fell into a coma. Never to return to us again. 2
days in the coma her heart was racing, but her blood pressure plummeted
to deathly low reading. She passed away on August 31. Her heart failed.
It was 4 months later we learned that is was Encephalitis. A short life.
A sad ending. Hard to deal with but, life will go on, with her in out hearts.
As it will for all those who lose people who mean something to them.
