Hi! I'm Anne, my daughter Leanne got Viral Encephalitis September 2007,
she was only 2 yrs and 5 months old. It all started with a fever, the next
morning we had to rush her to the nearest hospital as she turned blue and
was not responding. When we arrived at the hospital she had a seizure, I
just turned my back and let the Doctors take care of my little girl. I decided
to transfer her to another hospital with a specialist, then I was able to
talk to a Neuro about my little girl's condition. After my dis-cussion with
the Neuro, I found it was not a normal fever. As advised by the Doctor,
my child might be infected with a virus so she must undergo some series
of tests/procedures like lumbar tap, CT scan, MRI and other tests.
They scheduled tests to be done immediately. While waiting for the results, Acyclovir
was given to my daughter together with the anti convulsant med's. From there,
they confirmed that my daughter is suffering from Viral Encephalitis.
We stayed in the hospital for two weeks, my little girl was in a coma for about
4 days, when she woke up she was able to speak some and could move normally.
Than she fall asleep again, I thought that she would just gain some strength.
That was the last time I heard her talking, when we discharged her from
the hospital it broke my heart as my little girl was not the same little
girl that we used to have. She's can't walk, talk, sit or even recognize
us. But one thing that we are so thankful for is she is alive.
She's still doing PT and OT sessions 2-3 times a week. She can walk but with support,
slowly she is getting well. But still, she cannot talk, she only produces
sounds that we cannot understand. We do not know if she recognize's us now?
She gained some focus, she will look whenver she hears sounds. I'm still
looking forward to the day that she can call me again "Mommy" and we could
sing again together and go to the mall on the weekend. For the people out
there who are in this situation, do not loose hope. I know that my daughter
will be OK and recover in time. GOD BLESS!!!
Thanks,
Anne
