Devin was a full term, normal pregnancy baby. At 2 weeks old he contracted herpes and encephalitis followed within days. He was in the hospital for
32 days, in and out of intensive care. He is left with a severe global delay mentally and physically is hemi spastic on his right side. He cannot
use his right hand at all. He cannot walk or talk, and gets frustrated easily. He takes med's for seizures, but thankfully he hasn't had any of those
since he was in the hospital.
The doctors told us the most horrible worst case scenarios. That he would be blind and deaf and retarded if he even survived. His MRI showed 25%
of his brain matter was damaged. We always work Devin and encourage him to do new things. At three years old his MRI was "pretty normal". (quoting
his neuro) We were astonished at the results. All his therapists say "when he walks and when he talks" which tells me that someday if we keep working
him he will do those things. Nobody knows the true healing powers of the brain, as they told me after a year all the damage will be permanent. He
continues to make strides every day.
He has taught me a lot about life and I wouldn't trade or change this little wide eyed, innocent soul for anything. He is the happiest guy I know.
