Hello,
My name is Alexander and I am from Russia, Moscow. I am 24 years old and my wife is 22. We are the parents of a girl named Anastasia.
To tell you the truth, just a year ago I wouldn't`t even have know what encephalitis is and probably even accidentally wouldn't appear on your web page. But life plays it`s own game and we are just small toys in it`s hands.
When Nastya was born on April the 6th 2000 we thought that nothing could go wrong. My family has a lot of money and I though all illnesses can be cured and it is just a matter of money. I was so wrong! Our family doctor came once a week to see our daughter. We took her to take all the tests to prevent illness if there was any. No, nothing was wrong, she was perfect as an angel.
Suddenly when she was 6 months she had a very high fever. The doctor came and gave her some medicine after which the temperature whent down until next evening. It was very high again. We gave her the same medicine again the doctor said. On the third day her temperature rose again and on 6p.m. the left side of her body wouldn't move. We took her to the hospital, reanimation unit. She spent three weeks there. Doctors couldn't stop the trembling for ten days.
After three weeks she started swallowing and opened her eyes and we were allowed to see her. It was a shock of my life. It wasn`t the child I knew. She didn't`t react, didn't`t see, talk, move anything and the hardest of all she didn't` smile. The diagnosis was acutehaenorrhagic leukoencephalitis one of the varieties of postinfection encephalitis.
The worst of all is that the disease didn't stop and is developing further and the medicine can`t stop it. Doctor told us that she will die in a week or two. This disease, doctor told us, is very rare. Though it is listed in some medical books they can`t find examples of the families who had the same trouble and had children afterwards.
We want another child. Please if you know anybody who had the same trouble as we or any information at all that may help us let us know.
Thank you in advance and god bless your children.
