Hi! My name is Tina, I am a 28-year-old divorced mother of three. I live in South Carolina, USA . In December of 2001 after two misdiagnoses and a grand-mal seizure I was finally diagnosed with HS1E. The initial diagnosis I missed because I was in a comatose state for 8 days. I luckily came out of it with only minimal affects such as depression, headaches, fatigue, and small memory problems.
According to what the neurologist told my mother I would be dead or a vegetable
and neither happened, but I am definitely not the same. I went
back to work after three months part time and then after six
months I went back full time. I am a certified nursing assistant
who works in a nursing home taking care of elderly patients.
It is a very hard physical job lifting two hundred pound patients
from wheel chairs to beds etc. I am only responsible for 15
patients on good days and 20 on bad days. But I did it for a
month before I started getting dizzy, nauseous, tingling and
a general feeling of passing out. I just could not stand up
alone let alone lift patients depending on me, so now I am back
out of work and going through every test again. I have undergone
the following tests: MRI, CT Scans, EEG, Spinal Tap and even
a new HMPAO brain scan.
My neurologist just "does not know" what is causing it. This is why I started looking for help on the internet. I am very glad I did because it seems that the only accurate information I can get is from Daniel's web site "Encephalitis Cases" and all of you who have already been there. I still do not know what is causing all of the new symptoms or if they will ever go away, but at least now I have people to talk to about it. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH. I believe I have found my salvation here.
