My name is sharon known as shaz, I live in England. 5 years ago this summer I had a severe headache, as I get migraines I just ignored it. Acouple of days later it was still there I sat up till late. That saved my life, for as I got up to turn the tv off I fell, although my right side felt normal I couldn't move it.
I crawled to the phone but when I tried to speak I sounded so slurred nobody could understand a word I said my stepdaughter was upstairs in bed so I crawled through the hall and tried to get upstairs I had to hold onto the spindles it took ages to reach the top as I fell a few times. I got to the top and managed to wake her as I couldn't speak I gestured to her for a pen and managed to write "help".
I remember being rushed to hospital having a seizure. I came round 2 weeks later
in ICU, I could only blink. I'm told I was given 2 lumbar punctures
a cat scan MRI scan and an eeg. I was in ICU for 2 weeks I woke
with a tracheotomy in as they had tried me on a ventilator and
I had clamped my mouth so tight I couldn't breathe I spent a
further 3 months on a high dependency unit where gradually I
regained a little movement on my left side altogether I was
in hospital for 15 months.
Today I'm in a wheelchair I cant move my right side I cant talk and there isn't
much I can do for myself, but I'm thankful for being able to
move a little.
