Peter
My Name is Peter and I live in Northern California. In 1995 I went back to the east coast of the USA in August to visit my Family. I was then 35. I developed a rash over my whole body. When I came back to California I was diagnosed with a viral disease most likely from a mosquito bite.

After the rash went away I started to have vertigo. In October I became sick and had to take a leave from work. I had every test in the book including 5 MRI's and 3 Lumbar punctures. The only DX was a viral syndrome with demyelization. There was an area on the MRI but it was nonspecific.

I was in bed for 6 months and started having focal seizures. I had major facial pain and head pressure. I was able to walk but it was more a shuffle and I sometimes would walk into the wall. My Speech was very slurred and I had chronic fatigue. I also had vision problems. I slept 20 hours per day. I tried to go for short walks outside but became exhausted very quickly. I eventually felt somewhat better.

I went back to work but had to leave when it became too stressful for me. I started with seizures again and fatigue. The day I fell down the stairs at work I just gave in. It has been 6 years and I just received a DX. Bickerstaff Brainstem Encephalitis. I am doing better. I still get tired and my coordination and balance are not very good. I have started to see a physical therapist to help with this. I still have trouble with my speech. I have changed my diet and take homeopathic meds. I practice QI-Gong and Tai-CHI which help tremendously.

I am currently disabled, I worked as a Registered Nurse. I am doing OK and I hope someday I can go back to work.
