Hello I am 7 months into my recovery it started out as the flu but a week
after recovering from the flu I started getting very sick. I was extremely
dizzy with the worst headache of my life. I thought that maybe I got the
flu a second time. This was my big mistake. For what seemed like a week
I laid in bed suffering really out of it I finally went to urgent care they
said I still had the flu gave me something for my headache and sent me home.
After about another week things didn't get better and I saw my GP who said I probably have acute sinusitis I went on three bouts of antibiotics by week 3 I was still very sick but believed I was suffering from sinusitis. Strange symptoms started to happen. First I was getting the severe anxiety attacks and a weird buzzing feeling in my head still very dizzy an extremely fatigued. Then everything started to look like almost cartoonish and very detached. My arms and legs were going numb and one side of my face. I thought I was going crazy, and at times I still feel I will.
I want to mention that prior to E I was a business man, father of 4, married,
very stable and sure of myself. Finally I went to the ER where they suspected
meningitis and wanted to do a spinal tap after thinking about it I decided
not to go through with it. Another big mistake. A few weeks later I went
back to the hospital, they immediately admitted me. They did a LP but by
this time the damage was done. I was diagnosed with viral E and continue
to see my neouro monthly. It's now 7 months into recovery and although many
of my symptoms have resolved I have been left with vision problems and severe
depression and anxiety I still suffer with a sense of disassociation almost
like being drugged. The illness has left me feeling very weak minded, short
term memory and a diminished ability to concentrate. Although some days
are better than others.
That's my story so far. Thank you for all your stories as they have been a great help with understanding this bizarre illness.
Bless you,
Paul
