When I was 5 years old in 1967, I was taken to the hospital with a 103-degree temperature, which quickly spiked to 105. I was placed on a bed of ice to try to bring the temp down. My Doctor suspected encephalitis, because there were several cases
already diagnosed. The Doctor performed a spinal tap, and I was diagnosed with menengio encephalitis.
My Mother was given little hope, and she was told that I would either live or die. Several other children did die, but for some unknown reason, I survived. I pretty much had to re-learn everything.... walk, talk, etc. I occasionally wonder why I made it, and others did not.
I'm 40 years old now, and this entire story was related to me by family members. I remember nothing at all about it.
