My name is Kelli. I am 25 years old and I live in Ennis, TX. I've had encephalitis since August 1991.
I was at work (I'm a teacher and coach) when I first felt off balance. I went to the emergency room and they said I had Vertigo. When I went to the ER in Dallas about three days later, the doctor did a Spinal Tap and diagnosed me with encephalitis. He said I could get better in the hospital or at home. My mom and dad took me to their house and I continued to get worse. I was severely dehydrated, vomiting everything, even water. My Parents took me back to the hospital in Dallas where I couldn't eat for 30 days. Finally, I started eating and they sent me to their rehab hospital. I made remarkable progress and was only there for three weeks. I am in physical therapy three times a week. I still can't walk very well or talk very well and my writing is not yet great, but everyday I'm getting better.
