Joe
I contracted encephalitis at the age of 3 (in 1976), after a bout of chicken pox. I really don't remember a great deal about the episode, other than being in the hospital for a long time, and being pushed around in a wheelchair. I had all the classic symptoms of vomiting, loss of balance and loss of muscle coordination, fever, etc.

I eventually got better, and never really gave it much thought after that, until I stumbled across this page. Reading the page made me wonder if the encephalitis had any lasting effects on me. Everyone has little lapses of judgement and memory loss, so it's really somewhat arbitrary to make a correlation. It's a part of my history, though, and something to consider from time to time.

At any rate, I just wanted to say that I've turned out just fine. I graduated from college, and have a great job as a computer programmer, where mental prowess is most critical. I have excelled, and I hold out hope to parents of others that they may do the same.

Anyway this is my story I hope you enjoyed reading it.
