I am 65 years old man, I live in New Jersey, my first name is Elsayed. On August 2009 I had a sinus surgery, and I was recovering for over a month.
By the end of September, I started to get rash all over my body, then weakness in the Thai muscles, blurred vision and lack of coordination. I was admitted to a local hospital, I was deteriorating fast and for 8 days they did not know what I have.
The first MRI that was taken showed something wrong is going on in the brain, after a weak another MRI showed large white matters are spread inside the brain called demilenation. At that time I was almost paralyzed, could hardly see with right eye, could not talk clearly, or express what I wanted to say, lost a lot of memory, numbness and tingling in hands, through body to the feet.
I was near death, but by God’s will I was transferred to Columbia hospital in
New York, and that was the beginning of my survival. The people of Columbia
were very professional and know what they are doing, in 2 days they diagnosed
me with ADEM, after a week I started rehabilitation in the same hospital
for 10 days.
Now by the end of December 2009, I am walking with a cane,
I go to Kessler institute for Vestibular rehab to improve my stability and
coordination. I am weaker than before, my left eye vision is weaker, I still
have numbness and tingling from hands, through body to the feet, memory
is weaker but much better than 2 month ago. Neurologists said, It may take
months to years for this stuff to recover, if it comes back. MRI taken mid
December 2009 showed that the white matters in the brain was reduced during
these 2 month, since the first one.
