Dorothy
My name is Dorothy, and I live in Victoria, Australia. My husband died in 1981 leaving me with a 3-year-old boy. From that time I supported and brought up my son Michael alone. I don't remember anything when I was sick in March 2001. My sister came and found me in bed and rang the hospital. I was transferred from a country hospital after 3 days, because they didn't know what was wrong with me, to Melbourne where I was diagnosed as having a stroke. The next day I had an M.R.I. They diagnosed with Herpes Encephalitis.

I do remember a bit about the Austin Hospital in Melbourne. My son and his friend use to come and visit me in hospital. I lost a lot of weight when I was sick. My head didn't and sometimes, still doesn't remember what I had to do when it came to eating as well as reading and writing. I remember when I come back from Melbourne with a man to Bendigo. He left me there. My memory is very patchy of this time. I was there for 3 months.

My memory is still not completely back. There is still a lot I don't remember. A lot of things have come back from the past, way back, more than the future. I don't remember the names of things - people, town, food - I know I have seen them before or been to places before but I don't know what they are.

I wish I could remember everything completely.
