My name is Dianna L. Streett I live in Hedgesville WV. I had Herpes Simplex Encephalitis in Sept 1989; I am 34 years old now. The illness has caused me a lot of problems since 1989. After graduating from high Scholl. I went to Medix School and became a Medical Assistant in 1987. I worked in a busy DR's office, I also worked part-time as a pharmacy technician. I started that job back in 1984. So I was working 2 jobs when I got sick in 1989 and lost my memory.
I had a hard time getting back into work. My medical job was like starting over again, I couldn't remember how to do things or what I learned in school. I got back into drawing blood and giving shots and BP"s and stuff and dealing with patients but I always had to ask a lot of questions and write notes because of forgetting things, and it got to be to much. So, I had to stop doing the nursing job and just did filing and stuff. I didn't' have much of a problem getting back into the pharmacy job, I just had to relearn the computer and filling prescriptions and generic and brand name drugs.
I finally left the DR's office and went full time in the pharmacy. Then I started having problems with my feet. I lost feeling in them, so I had to stop driving and had to be driven back and forth to work and wherever else I went. My mom and I moved to WV in 2000 and we worked for cvs here. One morning while getting ready for work, I passed out and my legs gave out on me and from then on its been more problems and it's all caused from the Encephalitis in 1989.
I had to stop working in 2001 because I can't be on my feet for long periods of time. There isn't much I can do anymore, I can't work or drive haven't made any friends here and don't get out much. I get bored because there isn't much I can do and don't really have neighbors; we live up in the mountains so it's a lot of personal problems. It's nice to chat with people who suffer some of the same stuff.
