My name is Bonnie. I live in Connecticut. Here is my story:
June of 2004, I had a seizure at my place of work. I had no history of seizures. The ER did a series of test. I was in and out of seizures badly
for the first two weeks. The hospital prescribe IV antibiotics to me. And the neurologist put me on Dilantin at that time. I was slowly getting better
but Backus Hospital did not know exactly what medically was wrong w/ me but the MRI was abnormal. From Backus Hospital they admitted me to Yale Hospital
which they diagnosed me with viral encephalitis. I was discharged a week after I was admitted there.
My MRI's still come out unchanged comparison from June of 2004, My EEG's are still abnormal. I still get seizures which I take Lamictal 100mg twice
a day. I am a different person then I was before I had got encephalitis. I get mood swings and my mind sometimes races when I have so many thoughts
and what I came out and say is not what I meant to say. Sometimes I also lose time. For an example, a friend of mine went on vacation 2 wk's a go,
and I ask here just lately, how was your vacation last week.
I am just starting to understand I will have to just except this but sometimes it is hard. When I read other stories, It helps me to know, I am not
only one with side effects from this illness. I would still like to hear about effects people have from the encephalitis. It is frustrating because
it is almost 2 yrs since the illness happened and I just had another seizure even with my seizure med's. When I was almost seizure free for one year.
But I am still alive and some one always has it worse than you. I would like to know if the damage is done or if I am going to recover. None of these
doctors has the answers to these questions.
Thank you.
