Bob, age 26, acquired unknown encephalitis on September 4, 2001. On September 4th, Bob was found dazed and confused sitting in his truck a mile in the woods. He was rescued by some kids on an ATV. They called the police and reported him. He arrived at the medical center ER, without any identification on him so he was John Doe until they ran the truck plates and found me, his mother.
At 5 am on Wednesday I got the dreaded call that all mothers fear. For 4 days we thought Bob had a car accident because of a head injury. After 4 attempts to get him through an MRI, the Hospital finally knocked him out and we found out he had encephalitis. What they told me was an infection of his brain, the front part of his brain.
It has been 5 weeks now. Bob had to learn to eat, drink, talk, walk, and he is doing all of those great. His left side was badly effected, and sitting became a big challenge to him. His hands have tremors and we are wondering if that will ever pass ... His med's are Dilantin, Amantdine, and Mydol. He still has awful headaches ... Bob has times when he slips back to being 16. And he is amazed to be reminded he is 27 yrs old ... Bob is going to be in rehab for another 4 weeks, and after that he comes home to live with me. He hasn't lived at home since he was 19.
Bob would love to hear any related stories that would help him get through all of this. He has so many questions.
Thank you.
